Frequently Asked Questions

What is an in-home video EEG?

An in-home video EEG (VEEG) is a test ordered byyour physician that monitors your brain activity using electrodes on your scalp whilerecording video and audio. This helps doctors diagnose epilepsy and other seizure disorders.

How do I prepare for my EEG test?

Wash your hair the night before and avoid using any hair products like gels, oils, or sprays. Wear a button-down or zippered shirt to easily change clothes without disturbing the electrodes.

What should I expect during the setup?

A trained technologist will arrive at your home to place electrodes on your scalp and set up cameras to record. The setup usually takes about two hours.

Do the electrodes cause any pain or discomfort?

The electrodes are painless to apply and usually cause minimal discomfort, like slight pressure or itchiness. If you feel any significant discomfort, let the technologist know or call the monitoring hotline during your recording session.

Can I use my phone or computer during the test?

Yes, you can use most electronic devices. However, keep them away from the electrodes and wires to avoid interference.

Will my family be recorded on video?

Yes, if they are in view of the cameras. However, your doctor will only review footage that captures your symptoms.

What should I do if I need privacy?

You can step away from the camera into another room for temporary privacy but try to stay on camera as much as possible.

What if I have a medical emergency during the test?

In case of a medical emergency, call 911 or your treating physician. The EEG monitoring team cannot provide emergency medical services.

What happens after the test?

The technologist will return to remove the equipment. Our team will compile the technical data into a report and send it to your physician for interpretation.

How long will the EEG test last?

The duration varies depending on your doctor's order but typically lasts 3-days (72hr) to increase the chances of capturing an event. Staying connected to the equipment and on camera is crucial for accurate results.

Can I go about my daily activities during the EEG recording?

Yes, you can move around your home, but avoid activities like showering, bathing, or extreme physical exertion. Stay on camera as much as possible to capture all necessary data.

What if something goes wrong with the equipment?

Our remote technologists monitor the equipment remotely 24/7. If any issues occur, they can often fix them online (remotely) or will dispatch a technologist to your home if needed.

Will my insurance cover the EEG test?

Most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, cover EEG tests. Our team will work with your health plan to handle pre-authorization (if required), but it’s important to know your own coverage details.

What happens if no episodes are recorded during my EEG?

While it’s beneficial to capture an episode, it’s not always necessary. The EEG can still provide valuable information, as abnormal brain activity can be detected even without visible symptoms.
